I had worked a while back designing a Point-of-Load dimmer. This takes up to 1 A loads. It is designed to work like a hone dimmer: up for more light, down for less.
The design is MCU based. I will have to write some code, but it is basically a fixed function device. The PIC CPU is a slick part. I am looking forward to using it for logic replacement. It doesn't require much for external parts. This allowed me to build the whole system on 1" x 1.2" PCB. After debugging, I may shrink it further. The idea is to have it hang from the back of the switch.
I will put one of these in the back compartment for the passenger lighting and one in the front. I willl also have one for radio lighting.
With different software, the same board will work on the hot buss baggage lights to automatically turn them off after a short time period.
I am very happy with the new PCB software. I layed out this board in about 90 minutes, including making the part stencils.
