Brief Description: Riveting Left Elevator - Finally
Used hand and pneumatic squeezer to rivet the left elevator. The pneumatic squeezer was nice, but can't be used everywhere. Riveting the trim tab would have been easier before bending it. As it was, I had to pry it open a bit to get a very small bucking bar in. This could have been back-riveted.
Joining of the trim tab to the elevator was pretty simple. I took care to align the rear edges of the elevator and trim. The hinge spacing is a little tight.
The leading edge of the hinge had to be dimpled to fit with the skin. I probably could have counter-sunk the 606 spar. While this would have pretty much expanded the hole, the thickness of the hinge would have made this a very good joint. Instead, dimpling mildly deformed the hinge.
I had difficulty inserting the hinge pin. I started straightening the hinge. I got it straight enough to insert the hinge pin. The trim moves freely. I will re-form it a little more tomorrow.
Left to do: roll the leading edge, mount servo on E-616, and add fiberglas.
