Brief Description:  Instrument Panel

Started on the final major hole for the VP-50. Since I didn’t have that unit here and is on backorder for nearly 3 weeks, thought I should check on the status of that unit. Call Aircraft Spruce who check on it; they indicated there was no timeframe given. I then called Vertical Power and talked to one of the tech. consultants. Seems that no one has the units available and VP is not producing any at this point due to a parts supply problem. There is also the issue of reprogramming the unit to interface with other EFIS. Timeframe could be several months or more.

While the VP Tech. was as helpful as he could be by offering several suggestions, it would be considerable trouble to change the EFISI unit and the cost would be more then I had budgeted.

I then canceled my order for the VP-50 and returned the VP-50 wiring harness. I ordered the LSA Composite Design power panel from Aircraft Spruce. Since I will need to redo the instrument panel layout for the new power panel, I ordered a new instrument panel from ZAC. I knew this was simply going too easy.

The good news is that I’m very comfortable cutting the holes in the panel and making the brackets. Check with a local A&P on the brackets and he seems OK with the methods. Back to the design board.
