Brief Description:  Fabricating Nose Gear Coverplate Assembly

Fabricating the Nose Gear Coverplate Assembly SNB-13-23 from .025" 6061 T6 aluminum sheet stock.

This part was listed in the plans to have "typical" measurements, and was displayed for an AeroVee engine. The one I'm producing will be a little narrower, slightly shorter, and it's position will be offset to the pilot's side of the centerline as the Jabiru engine requires the offset nosewheel strut. I deliberately made this slot as narrow as possible while still allowing installation clearance around the nosewheel strut.

Hand cut the rectangular staring piece from .025" sheet stock to the dimmensions required for a clean and tight fit to the cowling slot when the lower cowling was fully pinned in place. Trimmed in the dog-ears on one end. Deburred all edges.

Cut hinges to length for the installation.

Drilled the hinges with #40 holes. Positioned the hinges and used the hinge holes as pilot holes to drill the coverplate.
