Brief Description: Fabricating Mounting Brackets For ELT
Determined the ELT could not be mounted under the vertical stabilizer by simply attaching the mounting tray to the thin skin web running between the two rear upper longerons due to flex of the skin web.
Decided to fabricate a forward and aft mounting bracket by cutting some heavier sheet stock to the desired width and depth, then bending a 90 degree stiffening angle on one long edge. The material was to thick for the usual bending brake, so I had to bend the angle in the vice. This left some pressure marks from the vice jaws that will have to be polished out after the bracket is fabricated.
Marked the centerline for the bracket, then symetrical lines on either side of center for the mounting tray screw holes to be drilled on.
Testing with of aft mounting bracket in rear of tail cone.
Setting gap between rear of ELT battery case to bracket rear angle.
Laying out the center and symetrical lines for postioning the screw holes for the ELT mounting tray.
