Brief Description:  Installed Flap Drive Tube

Installed the flap drive tube inside the fuselage.

Cut out a notch in the upper folded edge of the #1 cross support member to allow the mounting blocks to fit on the flange they are to mount on. Rounded the inside corner and dressed/smoothed the cut edge of all stress risers.

Also had to slightly enlarge the opening shape on the right side skin to allow the tube to rise enough to get the mounting block bottom half between the tube and the support flange it has to set on. This also provided similar tube clearances as the circular cutout on the left side.

Positioned blocks on mounting flange per plans. Clamped left set of blocks in position and drilled them. Bolted them in place to hold tube alignment on left side.

Installed the tube mounting blocks on the right side in the recess between the two larger daiameter sleeves on the tube's right end. Positioned them flush with the fore and aft edges of the mounting flange, then centered the flap drive tube between the left and right outboard skins. Adjusted until the distance from the end of the tube to the outer fuselage skin was equal. Verified with the center mark on the tube being 19 1/2" from the inner fuselage skin on each side.

Bolted the mounting blocks in place on the right side while not shifting the centering of the tube, then drilled them in place. Mounted the right side blocks and fixed the flap drive tube's center position.

Once final mounting and alignment was verified, I dissasembled both blocks and applied grease to the bearing surfaces, then remounted the tube in the blocks and tightened the bolts.

Ensured the mounting blocks clamped the tube tightly enough to hold the tube in the position it was in when released, yet they allow the tube to rotate freely in the blocks when movement force is applied.
