Plans: 1. Fab the gussets for the leading edge of the airfoil. Status: Complete. 2. Fab the gussets for the center spar of the airfoil. Status: Complete. 3. Fab the fuel valve handle extension. Status: Started. The fuel valve handle is not reachable by a seated pilot. To address the safety concern an extension to the valve handle is needed. After a great deal of thought I decided to purchase a manufactured extension. Because of the torque required to turn the handle a special high torque (expensive) flexible extension was needed. The units come with and without an outer jacket. The outer jacket doubles the price. It is recommended to use units with the outer jacket to prevent coiling of the link during use. I decided I could save some money if I used a piece of copper tube to create a cover. It also allows the link to be curved as desired for installation.
By slitting the copper tube I could insert the extension cable inside. I am not completely happy with the curves in the tube yet but this appears as though it will work once installed.
