Plans: 1. Fill the steel ballast bars with melted lead. Status: Complete. Filling the bars went without a hitch. I simply stood the bars on end in a bucket of dirt. Added the lead and melted with the torch. The two bars that mount in the lower section of the nose each weigh 8 lbs. The bar beneath the radiator came in at 5 lbs. So we have 21 lbs. of lead. One note regarding construction, I pre drilled the mounting holes and put a sacrificial bolt in each place. This eliminated the need to drill out the lead later. For the uninitiated lead does not like to be drilled.
