Plans: 1. Fabricate the foundation for the cockpit coaming. Status: About 15% complete. Padded leather coaming will encircle the cockpit opening. The cockpit coaming needs a foundation to be secured into the fuselage. The fuselage presents a slight problem in that the longerons are not centered to the surrounding sheet metal. To address the situation a 1/2" tube with a flange was secured along the outside edge. This provides some material to bond the fabric, holes to lace the coaming and a wider centered surface to support the pilot as he enters or exits the cockpit. 1/4" holes have been drilled on 1" centers to allow for leather shoelaces to bind the cover in place. Only the right side was completed today.
