Brief Description:  Torque Arm Fabrication

Plans:
1. Construct a torque arm for the landing gear.
Status: About half way done. Since the brake drums are connected to the axle via brackets a single torque arm is needed to hold the axle from turning. This will in turn hold the brakes. Sam Buchanan's design welds a torque arm directly to the axle. Since my welding skills are weak at best I will make a separate assembly that I can weld. This way my welds are not critical and I won’t damage the axle. The down side is a hole in the axle. That will weaken it slightly. Hence my having beefed up the axle thickness previously. That should prevent any tendency to break at that joint. Further I am including a collar over the joint. It will prevent flexing at the bolt hole. Once the hole is filled with a bolt I expect this joint to be the strongest part of the axle.
I finished the basic assembly today. What remains is to cut it into shape. Essentially just make it smaller.
