Brief Description:  Fab Anchor Brackets

Plans:

1. Correct flux welder issues.

Status: Complete. Installed bind nut to hold spool from unwinding. Using new goggles that are not too dark. Both worked.

2. Make Two Anchor Brackets

Status: Mostly complete. Created two anchor brackets today. I changed the height slightly from the prototype. It is now 1.15 inches as opposed to 1.25 inches. This will place the brake shoes deeper in the drum for better shoe contact. There is a concern that the bolt heads of the drum will contact the shoes if they are too deep. We will see if that is the case. If it is I can easily shim it further apart. Test fitting suggests it will work.

My welding technique is still poor. Now that I can see the work it is apparent that this is a skill I still have yet to acquire. Lots or blobs. I do think the flux wire welder is hit and miss but others seem to do okay. Fortunately the Dremel tool to the rescue. When I get a blob it is a concern that the welds are not truly welded (i.e. a cold joint). I think it is possible but most of the joints look pretty solid. I have re-welded several times in areas that look suspicious. The brakes are mainly for run-up and are a known poor performer. That actual kit does not offer brakes. This option is suggested by the community. I will continue to clean up the welds tomorrow. But they should work as-is now.

I also am cleaning and polishing them using a reloading brass tumbler and crushed walnuts.
