Brief Description:  Propeller Flange Lugs

Plans:
1. Install the propeller lugs.
Status: 50% complete. I purchased six lugs for the prop flange from Saber. Aeromomentum recommended that I have the lugs trimmed to an overall dimension of 0.75 inches. This was to make it possible to clear the front surface of the gear box during the install. That turned out not to be necessary for the SAE1 hole pattern. I did have the lugs trimmed and now wish I had not. The additional protrusion from the flange face would have provided additional gripping area for the prop extension. The trimmed version protrudes about 0.1 inches. This is enough to center the extension but a little more would be better. Trimming turned out not to be necessary. I think Aeromomentum was thinking of one of the inner hole patterns. The main challenge with the installation was making a jig to pull the lugs into place. I needed to hand thread several AN6 bolts to do the job. Bolts with the necessary long threaded section are not readily available. The bolts become damaged due to the extreme stress involved and can only be used once. I had to stop at three lugs as I ran out of nuts and bolts. Note that freezing the lugs and heating the flange with a hot air gun helps ease the installation.
2. Add plate nuts to the cowl.
Status: No progress. Unfortunately during the disassembly of the cowl a nut broke free from the lower portion. This made it difficult to perform the disassembly. Ultimately I got it apart and decided to repair the nut by fiberglassing over it to hold it in place more securely. So some time was lost doing some glass work.

Update: Aeromomentum has offered to provide a no cost exchange of the flywheel. Their welder is sick and Corona Virus impacts to the shop are holding up the shipment of the flywheel. They have no idea at the moment when it can ship.
