Plans.
1: Add in-line fuses for the powered instruments and sensors.
Status: Complete. I decided to place individual fuses into the power lines for the instruments. Should any instrument short-out the rest of the instruments on the Avionics bus will continue working. This was actually recommended in several of the instrument hook-up instructions but I didn't have the required fuse holders during the initial install..
2: Check out the Instrumentes.
Status: 50% Complete. I can't verify the Pitot static instruments on the ground but everything else can be tested. I jury rigged a variable voltage output with a 10-turn potentiometer to simulate sensors. Instruments are either a voltage sensing meter or a resistance sensing meter. Both oil and water temperature sensor resistance varies with temperature. Other sensors produce outputs that vary from 0.5 VDC to 4.5 VDC. I found that the fuel level gauge is defective. The needle bounces around like crazy. The oil pressure and temperature gauges work. The battery voltage and current meters work. The compass lighting works. I still need to test the water temperature gauge and fuel level sensor.
3. Fab and install copper bus bar bridges.
Status: Complete. Inserting the current shunt into the 12VDC battery circuit allows you to get accurate indications of the charging system's performance. It also adds a little complexity. To avoid using bridge wires and crimp terminals I created solid copper bridges to insert the shunt. The copper will provide a very reliable connection that can handle hundreds of Amps. Since the distance between terminals was short this is a simple high quality solution.
