Brief Description:  Airfoils & Cabanes

Plans:
1. Airfoil Templates: Transfer the paper templates to sheet metal.
Status: Complete. The paper cutouts were pasted onto some sheet metal and cut out with the bandsaw. The same process as with the bending jig. Just on metal versus plywood. These templates will allow me to verify the airfoil bends are correct and make gussets.
2. Paint Cabanes and "N" Struts: Finish painting the "N" struts and start the cabanes.
Status: The Bonderite Alodine was available for purchase today from Aircraft Spruce. This allowed me to make significant progress painting the cabanes. Fairly uneventful. I managed to do about 1/3 of the pieces so far. If I disassemble all the pieces at once the center structure will be unsupported. So for now it will be in thirds.

I stumbled across a missing design element that I think should be documented. The airfoils are made from tubing formed into shape with the jig. I noted today that the wing's angle of attack is somewhat set by the spacing of the rear spar relative to the tubes. Given all the history regarding the so called 2.5 inch AOA wing issue it occurs to me that this is potentially another source of the problem. The only reference I have found in the plans for setting this is in the construction video. It illustrates that the airfoils are roughly centered on the spar.
