Brief Description:  Cabanes

Plans:
1. Install cabanes. The general idea today is to permanently mount the cabanes in place with everything aligned.
Status: 50% compete. I decided the best way to get everything aligned correctly was to use four additional plumb bobs. I placed two additional lines near each wing tip to show alignment front to back (sweep) and lateral side to side offset of the "N" struts. This was very helpful. I was able to achieve exact parallel alignment of the wings and very good "N' strut alignment. In the end, I decided to offset the wings from center laterally by about 1/32" of true center. This closed a common error at the left and right strut. You actually can't tell it is there without the plumb bob. The remaining error appears to be on the order of 1/16" top to bottom on the left wing only. I will probably trim the upper wing spar the same amount to get the strut squarer. This technique is actually suggested in the video so I guess I am not an exception. I could have shifted it more laterally but that would have shifted the error to the right and center wing as well. This would have forced me to trim both sides and might be visually detectable in the center section. I went with a slight nudge as the compromise.

After finishing the alignment I started drilling holes for hardware. One discovery is that the brace wire from the upper cabanes can interfere with the drag wires internal to the wing if not placed slightly back on the compression strut. There is a practical limit because the eye bolt must go through the 2" compression strut bushing.
