Brief Description:  Stirrup

Plans:
1. Fab and install stirrup.
Status: 75% complete. Before starting the stirrup I finished the installation of the pushrod stabilizer. It was constructed of 1/8" nylon.

The stirrup design is quite different than I have seen others build. In the case of others the stirrup was clamped onto the lower longeron at a slight angle. Standing on one installed that way would tend to torque the tube and perhaps harm the plane. I decided to do something different. In my design the stirrup is solid 4130 that is bent at an angle (about 80 degrees). The opposite end of the stirrup is fed into a larger diameter aluminum tube. That tubing bridges across the top of the longerons distributing the forces. Now when a pilot steps on the stirrup all forces are applied in the vertical axis without any torque. It is a bit heavier but should operate without harming the aircraft. For the moment at least the cross member is bolted in place. I plan to have it welded when I get around to it.
