Brief Description:  Bending Longerons

Plans:

1. Continue Fuse build.

Status: Basically acomplished two thngs:

First, I added the ribs that locate the carrythrough members to the work bench jig. These locations and spacings need to be exact so they would line up with the wings when complete. I chose to create long 2.5" and 2.125" width spacers to ensure that the alignments and dimensions would be exact. All I had to do was stack two shop levels (1 inch width each) and some .125 bar stock. It worked perfectly.

Second, I bent the longerons into the curves that define the top and bottom contours of the fuselage. It turned out that it was not as difficult as I had imagined. I marked the top surface of the tubes with a sharpie to help me control the tube during the bend process. It acted as an indicator that the tube is not being rotated. Worked fine.

I also tried my hand at coping the longerons into the tail post. I ended up with a tight joint after some trial and error with the drill press jig. Later, after re-watching the video, I realized that I should have coped the longerons into the hinges that go on the tail post. They are slightly larger in diameter. I corrected that with the Dremel tool.
