Brief Description:  Assemble Longerons

Plans.

1. Assembly of fuselage parts.
Status: Previously the locations of the fuselage parts were lofted fullsize onto the workbench and located precisely using wooden blocks. Today cuting of metal and riveting started. Yeah.

The four fuselage longerons are formed by joining shorter pieces together to make longer components. Two top longerons and two bottom longerons were fabbed by slipping a smaller diameter tube into a larger diameter tube then riveting four places. Each of these is to be bent to shape using the tubing form. Oversleeves are used to increase the longeron diameter where the landing gear and cabanes attach. Eight two inch long oversleeves were cut from 1.125" tubing. Eight more will be cut next session from 1.0" diameter tubing. The 1.125" diameter oversleeve goes over the slightly smaller 1.0" diameter oversleeve. They in turn are slipped onto the longerons.

Not many parts to show for today. Doing things reasonably accurately without special (expensive) tools requires some clever use of the tools I have and takes a little time. I don't have a lathe to cut the sleeves for example so they are being sanded into shape with a belt sander. In the photo of the oversleeves you can see a part that was made slightly under the two inch length. It will be discarded or used for another purpose later.
