Brief Description:  Fab Brake Hub Caps

Plan for the day was to:
1. Buy the 4130 tube, strap and hardware to attach the O'Brian brakes to the AA axle (Aircraft Spruce). Buy welding apron if required (Home Depot).

Status: Completed. I ending up ordering the apron from Amazon.

2. Attach the bench overhead lighting to the work bench and fill buckets with sand.

Status: Completed.

3. Fabricate brake torque arm from tubing and strap.

Status: Incomplete. Did not start today.

4. Locate and drill hub cap mounting holes.

Status Incomplete. Created drill template to locate the holes. I was unable to drill the holes having run out of time and change of plan. New thinking is that the lugs I was fabricating could be a problem to remove for maintenance. Since the lug was securred to the hub with a nut, if the bolt or nut loosened, it would turn freely in the thru hole. Assuming the weel cover is installed there would be no access to tighten the nut without distroying the hub caps. The 5 lugs need to be perminately attached to the hub. I am rethinking that I will drill and tap holes for 1/4-28 and create perminate lugs by red loctiting in the hole and adding a backing nut.

5. Verify hardware dimensions and suitability of attaching TOB drums to wheels.

Status: Complete. Unfortunately the plan I had going in appears to be poor. On closer inspection of the TOB brake drums it is apparent they are designed for 1/4-28 bolts. The AA wheels are drilled for 10-32 bolts. All the 10-32 hardware I previously purchased is too small for the brakes. The plan going forward is to drill and tap the wheels to accept 1/4-28.
