Brief Description: Corvair College #12
|
|
Discovered, quite by accident, that William Wynn was holding his Corvair College #12 a few miles west of Columbia, S.C. this past week-end. Thats less than 200 miles from my home so I quickly made arrangement to attend. I Traveled and stayed in my Converted Bus after contacting the Host and finding that he had room at the site for a couple of RV's. I ended up right at the hanger and there for all of the activity 24/7. I got the opportunity to meet and get to know several of the 601 Builders, Ron Lendon, Debo Cox and others - whose sites I've been watching since B-4 I began my own build and have communicated with in a couple of cases. Also got a chance to see the three current designs for the "5th Bearing" for the Corvair and meet the designers of each example - William & Roy of Roy's Garage. Saw a Corvair run on a test stand, a couple dis-assembeled, a couple starting the re-assembly process. I got to meet William Wynn and Grace, Ed Fisher (the Host for this affair) an A/C designer himself...he's built over 18 A/C but modestly admits that only 11 were his own design. Got to exchange views and listen to opinions of many - it was a well attended weekend and see several flying examples of Corvair powered A/C. Most of the attendee's are or plan to be 601/650 builders and many, like myself - plan's builders. If you want to learn about Corvair's for Airplanes...this is the event to attend. Great guys attend and you make a bunch of new friends.
