Returned from Virginia yesterday due to bad weather forecast for today. They were right - it snowed all morning. Wasn't quite sure how to attack the finishing of the fiberglass. So I just dove in with 60 grit paper on the vibrating sander. That worked quite well for rough cutting the flatter sections. For the curvy sections I taped sandpaper to a 4" PVC coupler for the smaller radius areas, and a section of sonotube for the larger radius areas. I used these tools to rough shape the whole layup and knock off the high spots.
Next I worked the edges near to the tape with 150 paper, and feathered the joints between the glass and the metal on the canopy skirts. When I pulled off the top layer of tape I found a couple of spots where I had not sanded deep enough, so I will have to fix those spots on the next sanding.
Can't believe the above took me 5 hours! Mixed a one-pump batch of epoxy and brushed on the tape seam as instructed. Then mixed in some micro-bubbles and filled low spots. Stoked the fire a couple of times during the evening to keep it warm in the shop to promote curing.
