Brief Description:  Drilled side skirts, finished all canopy holes.

Went off to my meeting this morning. Ten below. Got to the shop about 12:30. After I got it up to 80 I called Brenda and Dave and Carolyn to help with the canopy drilling. Brenda became the first passenger in the new plane, although it was a short trip. At least she didn't get motion sickness. Clecoed her in and drilled all the side skirt holes with the 1/8" plexiglass bit. Forgot to cleco as I went, but don't think it really mattered, as nothing could move very much anyway. Set Brenda free, and began enlarging all the canopy holes. Used the new Unibit that I picked up last night at the 5/32" step, as advised by many other builders. It worked great with no tendency to grab or chatter. Deburred all the holes inside and out, and countersunk the front holes with the new plexiglass countersink tool that I got from SkyGeek. Kept the temperature at 80 or above during the entire process. Burned a lot of wood, what with the bitter cold outside, but well worth it. The plexi cuts like butter at those temperatures.

When I drilled the most forward hole in each side Brenda couldn't get the wood block in there to back up the drill, and both holes showed some chipping on the back side. I was able to use the deburring tool to get rid of the chipped area. Had to be very careful, since these two holes are real close to the edge of the plexiglass.

There was one hole in the rear of the bubble that was elongated. To enlarge that hole I very carefully worked the Unibit by hand so as not to wedge it in and chance a crack.

Installed guide blocks. Had to modify the guide plates so they would clear the frame welds, and match drilled. Primed the back of the skirts and the lift handles. Interior painted the sides of the frame and the guide plates.

A very good day, and so glad to be finished with the plexiglass work!
