The sealant on the tank is curing nicely and no longer sticky, so I went back to tank construction today. Once again ran into a snag on the first thing I did. Tried to install the tank in the airplane and discovered I had installed the wrong nutplates on the mounting bracket. Drilled them out and installed correct plates. Easy fix. Bolted tank into place. Temporarily clecoed the turtle deck skin in place. Spent a lot of time fitting the filler tube assembly. Tweaked the filler neck flange a bunch of times to try for a perfect fit. Got close enough that the tank sealant will fill the gaps. Match drilled the flange to the skin. Marked the hole location on the tank.
Removed the tank and drilled the mounting holes around the lower flange. Marked the inside opening and made the hole and deburred. Made the clips for fastening the fuel return line to the top of the tank.
Next - fabricate the return line, mix up another batch of tank goop and button up the tank.
