Brief Description:  Worked on frames and side skins.

CJ and I inspected the interior paint, found no defects. Stripped all the masking tape and paper. Assembled and riveted side framing. This went fast due to prevoiusly prepping and painting the pieces. Got down the side skins and made the cutouts for the wing spars as previously marked. Some difficulty making the cuts without deforming the edges of the aluminum. Found the best way to finish the end of the slots was to rough them out with the snips and then use a flat file. I enlarged the width of the slot at both ends to preclude problems with the fat rivets in the spars hitting the skins. This problem has been discussed before on VAF. Just to be sure I think I will check the widths again with the micrometer.

Got the previously finished longerons down from the rack and installed them as instructed. Clecoed both side skins to the frame, then made minor alignment adjustments to make everything line up as specified. Used a bunch of clamps to temporarily hold everything in place for the longeron drilling. After all the trouble I had with those longerons, I am pretty happy with the fit. Only needed a small amount of pressure here and there to make everything line up.

At end of day assembled and painted some of the small parts such as the vents and skin stiffeners. Tomorow - lots of drilling - I think I will hook up the electric drill instead of using the the cordless.
