Brief Description:  Summer update & some progress!

FINALLY got back into the shop for the afternoon. Since the last work session, a month ago, summer activities have taken a heavy toll on the airplane project. First there was a week at Oshkosh. I had a wonderful time camping under the wing of the Arrow - yes that's what I said - under the wing. I'll be able to stand up straight any day now. One of the highlights was getting to fly the factory demo RV-12 off the main airshow runway just before they closed for the airshow. An amazing sight, considering the helicopter-like view from the '12. Attended lots of workshops and forums, got to meet Van and a bunch of his employees, rubbed elbows with some of the pilots with household names. Spent a night in Muskegon with the cousins on the way home.

The day after my return I started the teardown on the Arrow for the annual inspection. Bill Milton and I swapped hangars, his classic Cessna 195 went into my hangar, and the Arrow went into the big maintenance hangar where all the cool tools reside. Bill is the owner of "The 195 Factory" at the Fulton County Airport. Bill let me do a lot of the work myself, which slowed the process noticeably, and we had to order some parts. Rebuilt the brake system, replaced parts to tighten up the stabilator trim, and did a bunch of deferred maintenance items. Finally put the cowl back on and test hopped it yesterday.

We've had the usual summer visitors, graduation and birthday parties, and our niece's wedding during this period. I've been flying a lot with primary and instrument students as well. So the summer has flown by - no pun intended. I have a heavy schedule the next couple of weeks, and then we leave for two weeks vacation in Washington and Oregon. We have many activities planned, including visiting son John in Seattle, and of course the Van's factory.
