Brief Description:  Disassembled HS Spar, Installed Brackets

Warmer today, but had to blow snow again and Carolyn and I shovelled parts of the roof. Had other stuff to do didn't get to the shop till about 3 PM. Had an email from Ken Scott, and he advises taking the spar assembly apart to install counterweight brackets and to fix the pesky countersunk rivets. He is also sending me more CS4-4 rivets.

Picked up Dad Hines' old bench grinder and modified it to accept my scotchbrite wheel. It works great, much more powerful than "el cheapo." Dad seems to approve, as his picture on the wall is smiling.

With some trepidation I began drilling out the rivets holding the spar assembly together. For once, this task seems to actually be easier than I had feared! Got all the rivets out in no time at all and with no damage to the holes. Countersunk all the holes a little deeper with the 120 degree tool, so am ready to re-assemble when the new rivets arrive. Riveted in the counterbalance brackets using AD4 rivets as called out in plans. That was the step I had omitted before. Boy, it takes a LOT of force to squeeze those babies!

Back on track, ready to make some real progress!
