Brief Description:  Tried for carb sync run, too cold.

At airport I rigged the Carb-Mate for the balancing run, and wired the oil cooler more securely to prevent it from jumping around. Then spent some time picking up and organizing all the tools and parts. Moved the plane outside and started it up. Idled at 2000 to 2500 and waited for the oil temp to come up to the specified 122 F. Temp came up to 80F and stayed there. CarbMate showed a large imbalance on the carbs - full scale deflection even at minimum sensitivity. Tubes iced up, or a true large imbalance? Who knows for sure.

Left (on the gauge) EGT only came up to 80 -90 F at first, but eventually came up to roughly match the right. Unknown cause. Will reverse the wiring to correct the left/right problem and re-test.

It became clear that with the very low outside air temperature (in the teens) and the cowl not installed the engine was never going to get to operating temperature so I shut it down.

In the afternoon Mark and I flew a currency/lunch run in the 182. Got in some approaches and a little actual IMC time.

The weather forecast for the next week or so looks quite dismal. Off and on snow, cloudy, windy, and COLD. So, a change in plans is in order. I will move up the fuel draining and gascolator check, and then install the cowls. Then we'll weigh the airplane and get that out of the way. (Scheduled for Monday.) Then the fuel can be added and the gauge calibrated. Maybe by then we'll get a warmer day for the carb sync and WOT RPM check run.
