Brief Description: Inspected and worked fiberglass.
Rob came up this morning with his trusty spray gun and vast knowledge of prep and paint. In the best of all worlds we would have primed all the fiberglass parts. However...... "We" determined that I had not sanded agressively enough on most of the parts, and the canopy skirt still had wavy low spots. I don't consider myself a timid guy - but I guess that quality comes out when I am about to attack those coats of epoxy that I so lovingly applied!
So instead of applying primer Rob taught me (again) how to properly sand the fibergless, and how to "feel" for imperfections, ridges, hollows, and the like. Rob then worked the canopy skirt for quite awhile to remove high spots. Then we mixed up a small batch of epoxy and filler and Rob expertly smoothed it on the canopy and a couple of low spots on the lower cowl. After this layer cures my job will be to sand it smooth once again.
This afternoon I sanded the upper cowl and spinner again, and removed the spinner plate and sanded and masked the two little pieces of fiberglass behind the prop.
Next session I will completely sand the lower cowl again. I can see where I got lazy on the last go-around.
I'm very thankful for Rob's prefessional help. He is an artist! We tentatively scheduled him to come up Wednesday evening to spray the first coat of the heavy build primer. Meantime I have to finish the sanding and move the fuselage out of the shop.
Removed the steps and painted the lower parts black.
