Removed the landing light lens and enlarged the hole in the plexi so that the wing holes, the plexi holes, and the backing plate with the nutplates line up better. Reinstalled and all the screws go in OK.
Last night there was a post on the VAF forum warning of interference between the bolts on the end of the flaperon push rods. See: http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=57729.
This resulted from not reversing the right flaperon bolt when the autopilot servo was installed. I pulled the baggage compartment tunnel cover, and it was immediately clear that I had the same problem. Called Dave up to the garage and he lent me his younger body to contort into the cockpit and swap the bolt. See photos.
