Brief Description:  Worked on cowl hinges and tail cone.

Flew a session with Mark this morning before the monsoon moved in. Got to the shop about 11AM.

Finished prepping pretty much all the remaining finish kit metal parts. Ready for primer and interior paint. Then moved to page 38-04 to try and finish up as much of the cowl hinges as possible without actually mounting the cowl. Spent way too much time trying to figure out the marking of the hinges. In particular Figure 2 doesn't seem to match the instructions. Finally figured out that later on when the holes get drilled you have to be able to see the markings on the hinges through the fiberglass. Problem is the black marker doesn't show up well enough on the dark grey primer to be able to see it through the fiberglass. I am going to have to spray some light colored paint on the hinges and then mark them with the black "X's" for the hole locations.

Rearranged the shop to get the tail out where I can work on it. Then moved back to page 12-04 and made the marked masking tape strips for the tail cone mounting. Of course used blue tape, not realizing it was same situation with needing to see through the fiberglass. Had to redo everything with white tape, then mounted the cone pieces for the first fitting. Don't quite understand why they have you sand the mating edges for best fit, when they are going to get sanded down to produce a gap in a later step. I guess I will just follow the instructions as best I can. The rough fit is pretty good.
