Brief Description:  Flight Training

So, after studying every spare moment I had, I headed off to Florida to try and accomplish the impossible. I flew into Orlando International at about midnight on Sunday night due to several flight delays, picked-up my luggage and rental car, and headed to Ormond Beach about 1:20 minutes north.

I ended up at my hotel at about 2:00am and had to get up and be at the airport at 9:00am to begin paperwork. I met Neil Tomlinson, the nicest guy you would ever want to meet owner, and the office coordinator Darleen. They got me all squared away with my instructor Jimmy (aka James, aka Vishal) and Roberto. I wish I had more space to talk about all the great people I met there from the instructors to the students. It was an amazing experience.

I flew twice a day with ground school between flights with no breaks. I was typically at the flight school from 7:45am to 3:00pm, and then went to get lunch and study until I went to sleep. I tried to take a long walk on the beach each day, but it was mainly flying and studying, with only Sundays off from flying. In two weeks, I accrued about 35 hours of flight time.

Do to the availability of the Designated Pilot Examiner, I needed to stay an extra few days, which didn’t hurt my feelings because I felt I needed the time to study. My instructors were incredible, and I was ready for my check ride on Monday 4/24. Of course, the day of the check ride followed a cold front with a complete weather shift from the last two weeks, and it even rained on us during the flight. New runways, new patterns, new checkpoints, etc. Heck, why not?! After a very stressful ground, preflight, flight, and post-flight, my Examiner Dan congratulated me! I still can’t believe I pulled this off!
