Brief Description:  Fuel Flow Test

I struggle a bit trying to understand what the FAA was going to be looking for this fuel flow test, so in the long run I ended up taking all the language from the FAR’s, the data from Lycoming, the various measurements required, and I made my own form.

My buddy Steve helped me out with another set of hands because I wanted to collect the fuel flow from the point where the fuel enters the carburetor, which is obviously after the shut-off valves, and gasolator. This will provide the most realistic results of the gravity fed system.

There are actually different requirements for the various setups you can have on an aircraft. There can be one tank or multiple tanks, which are connected together or completely independent. I have two tanks that are connected together with a simple on/off valve. They are self-leveling, so they will always balance.

As I held the measuring container and a stopwatch, Steve controlled the valve in the cabin. As you can see from my numbers, fuel flow is not going to be a problem. Thanks Steve!
