Brief Description:  Firewall structure

Finally getting to the last bit to do before taking the fuselage out of the jig and doing the final welding.

I just followed what Eric did in his manuals to line things up. Dead easy.

What WASN'T so easy was tacking the bushings in for the engine mount. First, they need to be tacked in perpendicular to the firewall in both directions. To do this, I tried what Russ did in his CD; I made a plate, drilled a 9/16" hole in it, and tried to lightly tack the bushing to the plate.

That's where I ran into my first problem; my tip wasn't, ahem, large enough. I couldn't get the bushing up to a melting temperature. I managed sort of tacked them together and then clamped them to the firewall structure (picture 2, although the issue isn't readily apparent in the picture)

That's when I ran into my second problem; I had used some mild steel sheet I had lying around to learn how to weld with. It is way too thing and warped with the heat, so it didn't give me a sturdy, square platform to weld from.

The resolution? I ordered some of the parger, long tips from Kent White (Tinmantech) and will work on some other stuff until they get here.
