Brief Description:  Laying out bottom crossmembers - Part 1

The cross member at the main gear attach point is a 1" tube, whereas the remainder of the bottom tubing is smaller. Rather than recess all of the tubes larger than 3/4" into the table top, I used spacers to lift everything else as is shown in the first picture. Also note that I extended the centerlines of the diagonals so it would be easier later to fit them..

The second picture shows my high tech method of cutting tube: a 14" abrasive cut off mitre saw. Absolutely essential in my view.

The third picture shows how I mark each tube centreline and try to ensure the tubes are aligned correctly. Note something interesting here; the intersection of the tubing centrelines occurs in the middle of the longeron. What this means is that unless the diagonal tube meets the longeron at exactly 45 deg, the diagonal will not sit right in the junction of the cross member and the longeron. You can't just blindly make two 45 deg cuts on the end of the diagonals.
