Brief Description: L-Elev Tip: Prep and layup front "face"
I shaped the counterweight appropriately to be able to use it as a "plug" over which I could do the relevant glass layups.
I then removed any gelcoat from the tip to ensure a good bond for the new layups - once again, the trusty old dremel tool with a rotary sanding drum made very short work of this. I covered any areas on the L-Elev horn and counterbalance weight to ensure that no resin adhered itself to the metal structure and making sure that all edges and lines were nice and straight.
I then did three quick layup of glass and covered it all with cling film (saran wrap for any americans reading this ;) ) and used an elastic band as close the the corner radius as possible to ensure the the edges of the glass didn't lift. Left to cure.
Lead weight shaped and gel coat removed to accept new glass layups
understructure and counterweight covered with packaging tape to stop resin sticking
Still wet glass layups covered with cling film and held in place with elastic band
