Brief Description: 1 Hour Extreme Aerobatics - Extra 300
|
|
Today was my 40th Birthday. Unbeknownst to me, my friends and family had plotted and schemed behind my back, all chipping in and contributing to a 1 hour long flip in an Extra 300. Needless to say, when I found out that morning (early) what was in store for me later that day, I was ecstatic!
Some 2 hours later and I found myself introduced to my pilot for the flip: Arnie Meneghelli (of the Waterskiing Harvards fame - see http://www.flyinglions.co.za). Arnie just oozed professionalism and confidence and was extremely friendly and relaxed to boot. All this naturally went a looong way to putting not only my wife but me at ease with the whole scenario.
To cut a long story short, we strapped this awesome piece of machinery to our backs and in no time I was having a whole new world opened to me. It was mind blowing... the single most awesome thing I have done to date (and that includes the likes of skydiving, skiing, etc. etc). I was very fortunate in that I was given a lot of stick time during the flip during which I flew numerous loops, barrel rolls and straight rolls... with a roll rate of 360 deg/second, this thing is just in another league all together!
Arnie took me through many more maneuvers ranging, from multi-rotation spins to the most extreme of which I would guess was something he called a "double avalanche" - and everything in between.
I loved every second of it! Upon our return, the G meter reported 7 G's as our max --> Wikkid! :D
All I can do is thank my friends and family for a truly awesome experience. It will live with me for a loooong time to come - just wish I could finish my RV sooner now! ;)
