I use a round and half-round file to make little cut-outs in both attachment brackets to make sure that bracket does not interfere with shop-heads of the rivets that attach the skin to the inboard rib. For the rear most rivets that may interfere with the bracket, I merely bevelled that brackets edge slightly (visible in image 1 below)
Making sure that was sufficient edge distance to all relevant rivets, I also drilled the hole for the flop tube on the left tank only - my intention is to have a flop tube left and a standard fuel pickup on the right.
I then cleaned everything up to that nice satiny finish with a scotchbrite wheel. Very happy with the final result.
