Brief Description:  Fuel tank Z bracketts

The z brackets that hold the fuel tank to the spar were my next task. I had previously set up a jig to drill the center hole in each of the Z brackets. Using this jig and a number 12 drill bit I drilled the center holes in all the brackets, once that was done I placed each bracket on to the spar. A friend of mine who used to running auto body shop had a pile of old clecos of various sizes that he let me buy from him, as luck would have it there was the right cleco for an AN3 bolt. I clecoed the center hole squared the edges to the spar, then drilled a hole one of the sides, placed a cleco in the new hole and drilled the final hole. After all the holes were drilled I removed the Z brackets and cleaned them. I then used a very short 10x32 bolt and a nut plate to drill all rivet holes for the nut plates. The bolt I used was meant for a countersunk application, the angled head helped to align and center the nut plate over the hole. I used 1 nut plate as my guide for all of the holes, this nut plate will not be used for anything else other than a drill guide.

While deburring I countersunk the rivet holes for oops rivets. I then took all the z brackets outside and primed them. I have the nut plates all held on with a cleco ready for riveting.
