Brief Description:  initial landing gear aligment

After a lot of reading and looking around I was ready to align and drill the landing gear.

To start you roll the canoe onto it's back and get it level, next I dropped plumbobs from the center of the firewall and the tail. Using those I ran a string line on the floor down the center line. I used a weight on one end of the string and a spring on a weight on the other end to keep it taught. Next I bolted the gear loosely in place, using the holes for the axle I centered a 4ft piece of angle on end of the gear legs and dropped more plumbobs from the ends of the angle. Now that I knew the rough outboard location of the gear I put down another string under each set of gear leg plumbobs. These two strings were measured up and down the length to verify that they are perfectly parallel to the center line.

Next I gently tapped on the gear leg base to get the fore and after plumbobs equidistant from it's string, van's calls for 32nd accuracy. This process was repeated with another point on the center line to each aft plumbob(yellow measuring tapes) to make sure that they gear legs are the same distance fore and aft. That tweak then required a revisit to the 1st alignment.
