Brief Description: Drilling the tank baffle to the Z brackets
After replacing the Z bracket I was ready to put the tanks on the spar, strap them down and drill. Placing a piece of scrap 2x4 under the rear spar to protect it and the skin I then tossed two tie down straps(the same kind I use to hold loads in my truck). I walked around the wings and inspected the gaps in the sin surafce. I have one small(less than .02) gap on the top side of the right wing. Looking at other builders sites this seams to be a common ocurence and is often resolved durring riveting.
I drilled the hole in the joint plate, I drilled them with a smaller bith first and then to final size with the #19.
Then I drilled the inboard baffle where it meets the Z bracket. Next I took off the outboard skin(carefully) and drilled the same holes on the inboard baffle/Z bracket.
This process was repeated on the right wing. In addition on the right wing I final drilled the ribs to the spar, a task that had not yet been done.
When I pulled off the tank skin and looked at the baffle I could see the center line on the Z brackets below. Success!
