Brief Description: Dimpling the forward floor and other parts
Today I dimpled the side flanges of the F-866A lower fwd baggage bulkhead, leaving the tabs that will be riveted to the longerons undimpled.
I then dimpled the four #40 at the centre aft end of the fwd floor.
Then came the five #30 rivet holes that match the five countersunk holes on each lower longerons. How to do these gave pause for thought, and I noticed on the VAF website they gave many a headache. I ended up using a Heath robinson approach. I had to remove two bolts from the lower LG box brackets (image 1) so I could get the female #30 dimple die over it's male counterpart. I used the sliding plunger from my dimple press to hold this in place. I used the male dimple die in a 'crows foot' wrench(image 2, placing the die in the hole suppled for the 3/8ths extension rod. The crows foot was thicker than the dies insert is long so the riveting gun was hitting the crow foot inset of the die itself, thus helping to protect the die(image 3). This worked perfectly. I then replaced the bolts torqing them to the correct value.
I dimpled the F-870E-1 and 870B-1 stiffeners.
I final drilled and deburred the nutplate attachment holes on the F-864C-1 and 865B-1 throttle quadrant angles. Dimpling the same holes afterward. as well as the #40 rivet holes that match the skins.
I dimpled the rivet holes that matched the skins in all arm rests and bulkheads that attach to the mid side skins.
I dimpled the #40 holes in the F-815A-L-1 and R-1 fwd outboard seat ribs, and the F-815B-L-1 and R-1 aft outboard seat ribs that match the dimple countersunk holes in the mid side skins.
I dimpled the F-815C-L-1 and -R-1 angles that matched the dimpled holes in the mid side skins.
Bolt removed to facilitate dimpling of the rivet hole closest to the LG box.
