Brief Description: Aileron stops
|
|
Today, I riveted the aileron stops to both wings. I used an inclinometer taped to the side of the aileron with double sided tape, noted the reading, then moved the aileron 30 degrees upward. I used double sided tape on the stop itself so I could position stop in the correct position on the aileron bracket. I clamped the stop with a 'C' clamp and drilled the rivet holes. I then deburred the control stop rivet holes.
I removed the ailerons.
I drilled out the outer rivets that hold the outer aileron mounting together at the bearing end, as I had noticed, as many have, the worked end of the rivets are very close to the aileron mounting if the plans are followed exactly. I then countersunk the bracket on the inside and re riveted the bracket so the rivets are now flush with the bracket on it's inside and outside surfaces.
I replaced the ailerons, retorquing the pivot bolts.
I then removed the flaps, I had thought of using a single length of rod to hold each hinge together, but most on VAF's website suggest cutting it in half, and removing the centre 3 or 5 lugs from the hinge itself, and using two hinge pins for each flap, both being fed from the centre. This seemed the easier option so I'm going to do that.
