Brief Description:  Rudder cables and links

I made the links that connect the brake pedals to the rudder cables. They are made out of steel and really tear up the Scotchbrite wheel. The making of these links was a process where you center you rudder pedals, drill one hole only in the link so it may be installed. Then you hold the clevis of the cable so you can mark where the next hole in the link must be drilled. Once I did that to both sides, I discovered that the clevis shank portion the gets swaged to the cable had some interference with the snap bushing hole the cable passes through. I loosened up the HDMW blocks that hold the rudder pedal structure at the midpoint. I tried to slide the structure further towards the side of the fuselage but it didn’t budge. I think the structure was cut with absolutely no play. After fooling around with that thought, I installed the links a bit different than the drawing indicates, putting both links on the outside of the weldment. This allows better alignment and only minor rubbing occurred when actuating the rudder pedals. My next thought was to order longer clevis bolts to allow additional washers to be stacked thus allowing the cable to be in perfect position. I order about 6 different lengths, which should arrive tomorrow from Aircraft Spruce. The last thing I want to do is to disassemble the entire rudder assembly to remove the ends of the weldment or do I want to bend the welded tab that the links attach to. I think the washer spacing method is the way to go but I will get Van’s blessing to make sure.
