Brief Description: Elevator horns and tail section.
Today I drilled the elevator horns. The plans call out for a # 30 pilot in one of the horns and then with a fabricated block that has sides perfectly parallel and a pilot hole drilled through. You then use the pilot hole in the block and drill the other horn. Since I already had a nice bushing that was almost the width of the horns I decided to open up the previously drilled # 40 hole to # 30 in the bushing using my V-block on its side. I then faced each end to the width of the horns. I clamped the horns together and drilled through to the other horn. It came out perfectly. I also worked on the tail section of the fuselage. Even though mine is a quick build the aft most rivets are left to you to install. I drilled, deburred and dimpled everything that required it. I also made the rudder stops. What a pain in the butt! My band saw is so weak that cutting through 1/8 aluminum bar is a chore. I cut most of it on my bench grinder dipping the stops in water every few seconds to keep the fingers cool. It took some time! Tomorrow I will rivet as much as I can to get ready to mate the horizontal stabilizer.
