I attempted to install the carburetor today but ran into a snag right off the bat. I first reamed the 4 holes on the bracket with a 3/8 drill and then I started to remove the plate on the bottom of the engine. As soon as I started to unscrew the 4 nuts, oil started to spill out. I am assuming this is preservation oil and not the oil in the sump? Anyway, I sent an email to Vans to get clarification. I did go ahead and install all the control cables, which included the carb heat, throttle, prop, mixture, and cabin heat. The bracket that holds the carb cable was drilled to 3/8. The throttle hole was drilled to ½ and the mixture and prop required a ¾ inch hole. I did not tighten down all of the nuts in case I have to take things apart? Anyway, it is Friday evening and I will probably not hear from Van’s until Monday. I also received my handheld transceiver today from Aircraft Spruce. I will read up on the operation aspects and use it tomorrow to test my Garmin radio.
