Brief Description:  Connecting engine systems and devices

Today I install the VA-128 restrictor fitting in the oil pressure port of the engine. I should have done this when the engine was hanging by the hoist instead of mounted. It was very difficult to remove the pipe plug and install the fitting in those tight quarters. I also installed the two oil cooler line fittings using Permetex#2. The outlet port was very difficult and I had to alternately use a ¾ crows foot and a ¾ box wrench. I installed the manifold pressure gage using the instructions that came with the IE VMP install kit. I blew out all the hoses that came with the firewall forward kit with compressed air which is the minimum that shoud be done before installation and since all the hoses are new I felt it was enough. The Aeroquip hose master catalog calls this out as a minimum. I removed the pressure plug from cylinder #3 and installed the AN816-4D and the Aeroquip 303-4 hose to the VA-170 restrictor adapter that was installed in the firewall. A thin PVC tube runs between the adapter and the sender. This PVC was run through the 3 most forward ribs using small rubber grommets for protection. The manifold gage works like a charm. Next bit of business will be the carburetor.
