Welcome to my experimental aircraft web site.

I am building a Sonex aircraft from Sonex Aircraft LLC. This is a 2 place all-aluminum aerobatic aircraft built from a kit. I have decided to build the dual stick, conventional landing gear variant utilizing the optional Sport Acro ailerons. The ailerons are lengthened and the flaps are shortened which results in an increased roll rate (from 80 degrees/sec to > 105 degrees/sec) and an increased full flap stall speed (from 40 mph to 42 mph). I am also using a Corvair engine which is an atypical powerplant for this airplane. However, there are several Corvair powered Sonex aircraft safely flying today with more being built. I was thinking of a polished airframe with painted accents. I am considering the addition of lighting to permit nighttime (VFR) flying.

I use this website to show and document my build progress.

I thought I would start off with the engine as the initial start-up costs are low and I can buy the conversion parts as I progress. Plus, once I am done, a major component of the total overall build will be complete.

With the engine now complete it was time to purchase a kit :^). However before I did that I attended the Sonex Builders Workshop and checked-out what Sonex LLC was all about. I ended up buying an existing kit that was never started even though it was initially purchased back in 2005. It was missing some parts so I got it at a good price!

I hope you enjoy the site as I record by build?
